FAQ
UVM CLUB
FOOTBALL - FAQ
Do I have to tryout for the team?
No. All interested players are on the team if
they want to be.
I'm a freshman and am not sure how I
will adjust to college. How can club football help in the transition?
Club Football teaches freshmen to be well
balanced in their daily activities along with improved time management and
organizational skills. The commitment to the football team will not
interfere with your studies but rather help you learn how to use your time
wisely. It is also an excellent way to meet people who share your interests and make new friends as you make the transition to college life.
How much of a time commitment is
required?
There is a strongly recommended pre-season which begins two weeks before classes start. Pre-season housing will be available for those who are unable to move in early on campus. Those who want to come early will be able to stay with upper classmen/available housing provided by the team, until the dorms open for the team. The pre-season will consist of alternating two-a-day practices. This is essential in
preparing the team for the season. During the season, practice is about two and
a half hours 3-4 times a week. On the weekends, we have our games in which
there is a two-hour warm up beforehand. For away games, most of the schools we
play are within 5 hours or less. However, traveling can take up the entire day.
Is it expensive to play Club Football?
Do I have to buy my own equipment?
Club Football is not too expensive. Player dues are $175 per person per year. This helps the team cover annual
operational costs, food for players, and maintenance of equipment. The team
will provide you with a helmet, shoulder pads, girdle pads, thigh pads, knee
pads, mouth-guard, and all practice gear (pants, jersey, ect..) Each player
must provide himself with a girdle and cleats.
Football is an expensive sport, but we understand that college students
aren't exactly loaded with money.
What kind of teams does the UVM Club
Football Team play?
UVM has recently joined the National Club Football Association, and competes against other club football teams as well as NCAA “JV” programs such as Dartmouth College, Middlebury College,
Williams College,
and Norwich University.
What other benefits come with being a
member of the club football team?
Being apart of the club football team will give
you an opportunity to play a great sport, meet some new friends, and play a
positive role in the UVM community.
